FRED SMITH GOVERNOR 2008 - "A Little Extra Effort" Statewide BBQ Tour
Look on as D.J., a Fred Smith campaign team-member, keeps the folks back home informed about Fred's activities while he's on the road meeting the people of our great state...

November 12, 2007, Cleveland County...I'd been looking forward to the visit to Ambassador Baptist College where Fred would speak at chapel before 300 students and faculty. But alas, when the volunteers were delayed in arriving to take Ms. Ginny to Haywood, I volunteered happily. The views through Cleveland, Henderson, and Buncombe were worth the drive as we admired the vivid fall colors that covered the magnificent mountains. Ginny remarked she'd like to live in the mountains. In Haywood our good friend Rich LaFrenz met Ginny and escorted her to the GOP Women's lunch where she was the keynote speaker. I visited each table with brochure and bumper stickers and made sure that everyone had Fred's book. Ginny's words painted an enthusiastic portrait of her husband, his character, integrity, vision and hard work. Everyone responded positively. Henderson friends Ben Campen and Kim Burchen came to hear Ginny and at the BBQ, they introduced the new 10-4 campaign to raise money and awareness of Fred Smith's candidacy. While Ginny went with Ben and Kim for a relaxing afternoon, I was entrusted with her Lexus for the drive back to Shelby where I met Ira and we set up for the BBQ. Two school bookkeepers offered to help us and we appreciated their volunteerism. The crowds started to flow in through two doors and we recruited registration helpers. The program was expanded for the night as Ben spoke about the 10-4 program and two elected officials introduced Fred - Rep. Tim Moore and Rep. Debbie Clary who is running for the Senate. The crowd was hungry for BBQ and hungry to hear what Fred plan is for North Carolina. We filled them with both and at the end of the day we could say that Cleveland was another touchdown!
