FRED SMITH GOVERNOR 2008 - "A Little Extra Effort" Statewide BBQ Tour
Look on as D.J., a Fred Smith campaign team-member, keeps the folks back home informed about Fred's activities while he's on the road meeting the people of our great state...

Friday, November 9, 2007, Davie County...We headed west to Davie County in two vehicles as Saturday night would take us in opposite directions before meeting on Monday. Joe would have the weekend off to attend the State vs. Carolina game and our hosts to the county, Senator Andrew Brock, offered us volunteers to help. Fred's first appointment was with local business people and then he headed to the courthouse for visits with elected officials. An interview with the local newspapers and then two special visits - a Veterans Recognition at Rose Cemetery arranged by the Cub Scout Troop 75; and a visit to New Horizons, a training center for the developmentally disabled.

Friday night included a big playoff football game at the South Davie High School so we expected our attendance would be hampered. Not so. When I went outside to greet Fred there were probably 50 people in the room; we visited with folks outside for ten minutes and when we walked into the cafeteria, there were three times as many people. It boils down to "when people want to meet the next Governor of the State of North Carolina, they want to meet him." Big crowds are such a reward to us all. Adding to the numbers were guests from Davidson, Rowan, Forsyth and Yadkin. Representative Julia Howard was eloquent in her introduction of Fred and the day in Davie put us on the board with a high score. What a way to start the weekend!
