FRED SMITH GOVERNOR 2008 - "A Little Extra Effort" Statewide BBQ Tour
Monday, November 05, 2007, Surry County...Mt. Airy, Pilot Mountain - the hometown basis of the old television program, The Andy Griffith Show. While I'm told its star is an avid Democrat, I can report that Republicans are alive and well in Surry County. About 135 strong came out tonight to hear Fred address issues like the state of North Carolina's education, the DOT currently assessed by its own employees as inefficient, ineffective and unfocused, equipping law enforcement to combat illegal immigration with the 287G program, changing management in Raleigh so we can have honest government and encouraging people to live by the principals and strong family values on which this state and country were founded. The evening capped off a day directed by Senator Don East who arranged appointments for Fred with pastors and business people around the county. At the BBQ volunteers Anthony and his daughter, Alisha Epperson, helped us set-up and clean up. Young Alisha had been saving her money and gave Fred $2 toward his campaign. The gesture was so very sweet. There was also the businessman who wrote a generous check because he wanted books for his family, friends and employees. Surry County has a heart for Fred Smith and I know he has their votes.
