FRED SMITH GOVERNOR 2008 - "A Little Extra Effort" Statewide BBQ Tour
Wednesday, November 7, 2007...Union County Senator Eddie Goodall country. And Senator Goodall planned Fred's Day in Union. Traffic delayed our arrival to the first meeting but Fred visited different groups of business people, church leaders and a charter school throughout the day. A lengthy interview with the Monroe Enquirer Journal, and then visits in the courthouse and a meeting with the county economic development committee. There was a planned reception where Fred met some of his Union County contributors prior to the BBQ at the Weddington Swim and Racquet Club. At first I thought the club's meeting room might be too small but in the end, it was perfect for the number of guests that attended. Senator Goodall introduced Fred and said he learned by working with him that Fred has ABC - Ability, Background and Character. After Fred's presentation, the club proved a great backdrop for the television interview with the Charlotte CBS affiliate. They don't know when they'll run it, but we got the first look while they filmed. Union County's GOP leadership was excited at the turnout, particularly in all the newcomers who attended. Fred notes in his speech that it takes an army of people to elect a governor and our recruits are pouring in--more positive everyday! Think I'll go keep the driver company as we head back home to Johnston County.
