Saturday, January 12, 2008...Bladen County...Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" rang in my ear as we started down I -40 to 95 and 87 into Bladen County. We're 'on the road again with Fred, continuing the 100 County Extra Effort BBQ Tour. Bladen is BBQ 69. A couple of hours later, while setting up, the principal of First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills called to discuss the Dare County BBQ. When we'd conducted our business he said to me in all seriousness, "Did you hear that Willie Nelson was killed today?" "No!" I exclaimed. "Yes, he was playing on the road again." (Long pause for silence because what he told as a joke went right over my head). What didn't go over my head was Fred's warm reception in Bladen. The 7th Congressional District was meeting at the Front Porch Restaurant and a few of their delegates joined the local GOP at the BBQ. Fred invited Bladen County to dream with him about a Governor who understands leadership and comes prepared to address the state's problems with a strategic plan to improve North Carolinians quality of life. Our team is proud to be on the road with Fred Smith. With extra effort from Bladen County, we can take Fred over the top on primary day. Then onward to November!
