From The Campaign Trail

FRED SMITH GOVERNOR 2008 - "A Little Extra Effort" Statewide BBQ Tour
Look on as D.J., a Fred Smith campaign team-member, keeps the folks back home informed about Fred's activities while he's on the road meeting the people of our great state...

Friday, January 25, 2008...Randolph County ... "King of the Road" seems a fit title for today. Fred and DeVan left mid-morning to attend luncheon with the Rotary in Asheboro; then it was off to the radio station for what one GOP leader called "an outstanding interview." Pastors met with Fred before Senator Jerry Tillman took him around Randolph to meet with county leaders. Fred arrived at the high school - king of the campaign road- for his interview with the Asheboro Tribune. Guests lined up for autographs and pictures for posterity. The rooms buzzed with excitement for Fred. Then, shortly after guests started getting their supper, another King of the Road arrived - Richard Petty. He'd come to honor Fred as the best candidate to lead North Carolina. Richard and Lynda listened attentively with the rest of the audience to Fred's vision for North Carolina. The guests responded with applause when Fred highlighted his plans for education, transportation, immigration reform, Jessica's Law, property rights, voter identification, and his second amendment stand to "buy, sell or trade." A humble Fred was "king" of the night in Randolph County as guests waited to shake his hand, thank him for running and promise their votes. -- DJ

P.S. It takes a "team" to run a campaign and tonight Joe earned my box of gold stars. We changed the morning travel plan and about 20 minutes into our ride east on 64, he mentioned some important documents that were on the RV. After confirming his correctness, I called Fred and DeVan; they waited in Siler City for us to catch up and give them the Saturday "play books." Phew! Joe saved me from getting up at 5:30 a.m. Thanks, Buddy!
