FRED SMITH GOVERNOR 2008 - "A Little Extra Effort" Statewide BBQ Tour
Friday, February 1, 2008... Polk County...Woke up in Henderson to ice covered trees, safe streets--dodged another weather bullet.
Polk is my elder son's favorite US President. In listening to GOP Chair Cheryl Every welcome everyone, I realized I'd gotten sloppy in my pronunciation. She said "Pol-k," which is most correct. I've been saying "poke;" won't make that mistake again. And no matter how you say it, Polk County came out for Fred Smith. We'd arranged to use the Republican Headquarters Building in Columbus (a new place on the map for me). Beautiful little town. Lunch on a Friday - we figured 50, maybe 60 - Yipes - 110!!! Mountain View BBQ just two blocks away so no problem today. Guess I should start increasing the numbers now that people are engaged in the process. With help from local GOP volunteers, we put up extra tables and everyone was so excited by the turnout. Standing room only - we used every chair. Fred's video was in high demand afterward so perhaps we'll find it on the website soon. I know I may sound repetitive- the Polk audience listened closely and applauded for Fred's plans for education, transportation, immigration, voter ID, property rights, taxpayer protection and marriage rights. All received warmly. Be assured that anything opponents - Republican or Democrat - may say in the media now is only because they've video and audio-tapped Fred's comments for six months now. Fred Smith is a leader; Fred Smith has been out front on the issues; Fred Smith has plans to fix North Carolina's problems. Fred Smith set the agenda for this year's political debate. We need Fred Smith as Governor! Polk County - we're depending on you to make that extra effort.

Senator Fred Smith Visits the House of Flags
On Friday February 1st North Carolina Senator Fred Smith, a Republican candidate for Governor, visited the House of Flags Museum facility in Green Creek. Museum Curator George Scofield provided the historical tour of the evolution of the flag of the United States from the pre-Colonial era through modern times. The Senator was "amazed by the truly remarkable collection of flags." The Board of Directors discussed their vision of a new museum building in downtown Columbus located adjacent to Veteran's Park and the historic Polk County Courthouse. The Senator then briefed the Board on his plans as Governor of the state and the upcoming primary election. George H. Erwin, Senator Smith's WNC Regional Campaign Manager also discussed some additional foundation grant opportunities for funding the new building project. These are being followed up by the Board.
