FRED SMITH GOVERNOR 2008 - "A Little Extra Effort" Statewide BBQ Tour
Saturday, February 2, 2008...Stanly County...After lunch in Montgomery, Senator Goodall and Lisa Hyman, Senator Goodall's assistant, took Fred to some meetings in Albemarle. They attended a reception and then met with the radio station reporter who attended the BBQ. He taped Fred's remarks and took notes during the presentation. There was also a guest who was a young athlete years ago, coached by Fred's father. I know it's not a manly thing to say, but those reunion meetings are sweet to me. At the end of the day, Fred discussed the difference in the two BBQ's with Lisa - Montgomery had been a call to action and converted activists to work in the field of voters; Stanly in contrast was a rally. The audience applauded during the video at the Franklin couple's comment on marriage rights. They continued their applause for issues like education, transportation, honest government, immigration, property rights, Jessica's law and the marriage amendment. Clearly, while Stanly Republicans came to rally, the attendees also left our evening together as activists for Fred. I'm confident that they can increase their primary participation and put Fred over the top. Stanly County - thank you.
