FRED SMITH GOVERNOR 2008 - "A Little Extra Effort" Statewide BBQ Tour
Look on as D.J., a Fred Smith campaign team-member, keeps the folks back home informed about Fred's activities while he's on the road meeting the people of our great state...

Tuesday, March 18, 2008...Perquimans County...Now really, couldn't we do the last BBQ day without something going wrong? Fred and Bill drove off to a few planned meetings in Gatesville. Joe, Ira and I got on the bus. For those of you who've pieced it together, my husband Ira, is the driver, the AV man and our general go-to guy for all things electronic or mechanical. Bless him! About 20 minutes out of Eure he says to Joe, "did you pack the screen?" Joe replies, "No." We turn around, head back to Tarheel BBQ and I'm thinking, "no problem." An hour later I ask, "how much farther?" Thirty minutes was not the answer I wanted to hear. It was already 11:15 and I knew friend Bobby Jones would have people filling the restaurant. I was right. About 20 people were already seated when we arrived and started passing out literature and registration forms. The room, an L shape, had no wall space for the "infamous" screen and more people were filling the room. By the end of lunch the space was overflowing. We asked a table of people to move so we could set up the screen and show the DVD before Fred spoke. Perquimans was most accommodating and anxious to hear Fred's comments - they shifted seats, stood in corridors and didn't make a sound as they listened intently to Fred Smith. He shared his view of government as it currently stands and asked the people to support him in his effort to change and improve North Carolina. As folks were exiting, collecting bumper stickers and yard signs, one woman said to me, "my next stop is the Board of Elections. I'm changing my registration so I can vote for Fred." Thank you Perquimans for your support for Fred Smith. See you at the polls.

...A few miles down the road I came to the site of the days first BBQ. It was easy to spot as the Fred Smith bus was parked right beside the road at the entrance to the parking lot. This whole effort has been a monumental effort. The fist BBQ was last year on August 2, 2007. This day the final 3 BBQs would complete the effort. This is not the way most candidates run for Governor. Fred Smith is an amazing man. Fred put in the incredible effort necessary to visit every single county in North Carolina and hold a BBQ so that anyone who wanted could meet him and ask him as many questions as they wanted to. Fred did this because he says runnig for governor OUGHT to be a conversation with the people. More than 15,000 people have come out to the BBQs to meet Fred...
